What we do

Yong Fa Specialist Electrical repairs, overhauls and rewinds starters, alternators and electric motors for marine, industrial and heavy equipment β€” electrical work, machining and welding all under one roof.

Not listed? We take on general industrial and marine electrical work too β€” describe the equipment and we'll tell you honestly whether we can help.

How it works

The same five steps whatever the unit is β€” hover or tap any step for what it involves.

Not sure what's wrong?

Pick the symptom closest to what you're seeing and we'll point you to the likely cause and a few safe checks you can do first β€” no tools, no opening up the unit. Or describe it in your own words and send it straight to us.

This is a general guide, not a diagnosis. Electrical faults can have more than one cause β€” if you're ever unsure, stop and contact us rather than guessing.

Common problems we fix

Burnt-out windings

Rewound in-house β€” usually far cheaper than a replacement unit, and faster than sourcing an equivalent for an older frame.

Salt & water damage

Marine corrosion cleaned back, affected components replaced and the unit resealed before testing.

Worn shafts & bearings

Knurled, welded and machined back to a tight fit rather than scrapping the whole assembly.

Slow or failed cranking

Starters that drag, stick or engage intermittently β€” solenoids, brushes, field coils and drive gears.

Charging faults

Alternators not holding voltage, charging intermittently, or tripping warning lights under load.

Overheating & tripping

Motors drawing excessive current, humming without starting, or failing insulation-resistance tests.

Questions we get a lot

Is rewinding worth it, or should I just buy new?

For most industrial and marine units, rewinding costs far less than replacement and is often faster than sourcing an equivalent β€” especially on larger or older frames. We'll tell you honestly when a unit is past economical repair.

How long will my repair take?

It depends on the fault and parts availability. You'll get an expected turnaround with your quote. Tell us if it's a critical genset or a vessel on a schedule and we'll prioritise where we can.

What do you need from me to give a quote?

The model or part number from the unit's label β€” even a partial one β€” the engine or equipment make and model, and a description of what it's doing. A WhatsApp photo of the rating plate is the fastest route.

Do you handle units other workshops turn away?

Often, yes. Heavy-duty and high-output marine and industrial units are our core work rather than a sideline, and we do rewinding, machining and welding in-house instead of outsourcing them.

Do I bring the unit to you, or do you come out?

Most work is done at our Sam Leong Road workshop, where the test equipment is. Message us before removing anything if you're unsure whether the unit is the actual fault.

Still not sure what you need?

Send a photo of the unit's label or describe the problem β€” we'll tell you what's involved and give you a quote.
